Local 6070 Brothers & Sisters,
6070 has been participating in the Joint Health Care Committee in accordance with our contract. The University has the final say on our health care plans and the employee rates despite what the committee may or may not recommend.
Last year the plan was substantially changed by shifting costs of health care away from the plan and to the members who use the plan. This change was to the tune of about 7 million dollars.
The University had told employees in February of last year they were not going to raise the employee contributions at the same time they gutted your benefits. The committee did not have the number of votes needed to make a recommendation and the University had communicated with employees before the committee met on the employee contribution rates. Therefore, the employee contribution (the amount taken out of your paycheck for health care) was not changed on the tiers last year.
